I'm wondering if network notebook cards and USB cards might contain a mini-card I can remove and plug directly into my notebook computer replacing the existing wireless "g" card? Right now, I have a spare Belkin wireless "N" notebook card I could use, but no use wasting it if it doesn't contain a mini-card.

Nope- basically no chance. What you have inside your notebook is most likely mini-PCI or mini-PCI Express card with two or three connectors for antennas.
There's no way you can use a dismantled USB card in place of what you have inside unless you have an internal-USB Wi-Fi card which is very rare and in general not too good (poor signal quality)
