The T43 Thinkpad I got second hand and have been using for about three years was infected by malware a few days ago. I do not have the original installation CD but do have a genuine xp Professional service pack 2 CD. Instead of trying to clean up the malware, and since I have all of my data backed up (fortunately) before the disaster, I reformatted the hard drive with the xp Professional, thinking it's a safe move, and installed xp. Now I do not have the little icon for wireless connection on the lower right screen and pressing Fn key and F5 together does not help me get on the wireless connection. I downloaded BIOS and Wireless LAN drivers from the Leveno Support site using another PC, and installed them on my T43. It did not take the BIOS saying it's not needed now. The Wireless LAN driver, "7ywc54ww.exe" as stated at the Levono site for T43 and T43p, is actually "ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter", revealed by Add/Remove Program under Control Panel. Is it the right driver? I still cannot get my T43 to sense the signal from my Router. The other laptop that's being used by someone in the same room has no problem at all getting to the internet via the Router. The T43 had been connecting to the internet via the same router for a few years before this malaware incident. I would appreciate some good information and advice. Thank you in advance!

My TP42 had an Intel IPW2200 I believe in it. You might need to take your machine apart to see which one it has OR load a live ubuntu disk, open a terminal, and run "lshw -c net" to see what it has. You don't need to convert to linux or anything, just use it as a troubleshooting tool here.
