Next week I will be getting a cable connection installed in a mobile home. I want to use two laptop computers wirelessly. I have a windows XP laptop with a WLAN (802.11 b/g) card and I just purchased a new laptop (Vista) with an Intel Next-Gen Wireless N card. Can someone please tell me which router I should buy? I have heard that since it is a mobile home and the walls are made of metal, I may need to get something with a strong signal. I am hoping to set this up myself (no computer knowledge). If possible, please recommend the brand and model # so I can easily just go into Best Buys/Circuit City and get it. Thanks! (I've been reading the posts the last several weeks and learned so much helpful info to help me configure my new laptop). Thanks!

i personally live in a mobile home myself, i have never had any problems with signal or anything and ive used two different linksys(upgraded recently). I would recommend using the linksys WRT150N. it covers nearly every type of wireless including N/G/B.. it would be worth buying it online, as well, because any retail store will screw u over.. trust me ive had it done to me.. here is the link

If you are willing to tweak the settings a little, give the D-Link Dir655 a try

If you buy and Draft 11n product make sure you get v2 firmware.

What do you mean by V2 firmware? I assume that is something having to do with the installation disk? Does that mean Version 2 of a particular installation disk or system?

Firmware is software code that the routers cpu runs. It like Xp and Vista on a PC. Mfg have not said 100% that old v1 will meet the final spec. It is a concenses that v2 units will be close to the final spec and will work.

Firmware is software that the router runs. like your pc running XP and vista. MFG have not said that v1 will meet the final spec. It is concensious that v2 firmware is close enough to the final code that it will. But this is all spectulation, as with 11g a lot of hardware was not able to run the final spec with out issues of poor performance.

Thanks for V2 answer. A suggestion was given to me by a poster to get the Lynksys WRT150N. I looked it up on the Best Buy website. Sounds good?

This week at Best Buy the WRT300N is only $10 more. (WRT150N costs $119.00 and the WRT300N is $129). Is the WRT300N overkill for me? Or is it worth it for the extra $10.00? When I tried to read about them both on-line I just don't understand what all the specifications mean and what I'm getting. (I do think I need to purchase this from a store just in case I need to call in the Geek Squad or who ever they have to help me in case I get stuck.)

I use the old war horse Linksys WRT54G. Around $50.00 and even less used, should suite your needs.
