I have the Westell 6100 Modem. Earlier i had some issues and then resetted my modem. I then had to reconfig my modem.

To those of you who have a linksys wrt54 router, do most of you use bridge mode? The thing is the bridge mode, wich i am in now, i do NOT have the internet light showing green. I know this is how it is suppose to because support told me this. Verizon online support tells me this is the preferred method to have a linksys router on.

The problem with this for me is that i would never know when my internet would act up and when i would lose connection. Also, i cannot see my tran stats this way as well.

The way i have my modem and router set up before this was first set my modem in bridge mode to get my router working. Then i did these steps where i unbridged it where the green light on my westell 6100 shows and my router works as well. The great part about this is i can always type 192.168.1.1 and see my tran stats with the margin db to see if it is good because i get so many frequent disconnects. Now, i have to type 192.168.2.1 and i have access to the linksys and no access to the tranceiver stats.

Verizon support tells me not to do it my way because i would have connectivity issues because i would be trying to go online through both my router and modem and there would be problems. The bridge mode would allow me to go to the internet through my router. The thing i have with this is that i don't always want my router turned on. I know i can just unplug it but then my internet would not work and i would be on bridge mode. Or if i wan to see tranceiver stats, i have to do so much work.

I usually do not have my router plugged on. Do most of you say its better to have the router bridged and where the Modem shows no internet light or the method i have? The method i use is i connect the internet through my modem where the Internet light shows green. If i want to have my router on, i just go connect it back in and both my wired internet and wireless would work. The great part about this is again i can see the tranceiver stats all the time.

Do most of you people use the bridge mode or the mode i use? What is the mode i use called? Is it called unbridged? Because i know unbridged mode means you go online through your modem but i am going online through my modem and it also allows me to connect my router anytime without me needing to reset it. I mean i'm not in bridge mode but this way allows me to connect my linksys router on as well and also gives me the chance to look at my internet light so i can know if my internet would turn bad etc.

Can someone tell me how i undo it and still would be able to put my wireless router in while having it unbridged? Like most of the time i won't have my router on and would just be going online through my modem. I want to be able to check my tranceiver stats always and also be able to plug in my wireless router in and out without doing any changes. I had it setup this way before and cannot remember how i did this.

    Can someone help?

I just did my modem bridged and linksys router on. Can someone tell me why when i go to 192.168.2.1 I don't see the linksys page but when i go to 192.168.1.1 I see the linksys page?

This is how Verizon sets up a Westell and a Linksys router. If you get it set up in another way then you will have connection issues.

Bridge Mode is necessary because DSL authentication is handled by the Westell 6100 modem. However, when you set-up a home network with a Linksys router, this authentication must be shifted to the Linksys router. Changing the modem settings from PPPoE to Bridge Mode will simplify the role of the Westell 6100 modem and moves the authentication and router functionality completely to the Linksys router.

The 192.168.1.1 is what Linksys uses to access their set-up page.

If you need to access the Westell Modem, you will need to disconnect the linksys router and directly connect the westell Modem to the computer. Then you can enter 192.168.x.x to access the Westell Modem's set up page and make the changes you need to.

The bottom line is that Verizon's Westell is actually a modem/router so if you do not bridge the westell it is like setting up 2 routers (Westell)+(Linksys) and you will not be able to connect to the internet.

I know it can be confusing.

However with a cable modem you do not need to use bridge mode as the modem is just a modem and does not need to authenticate like the DSL connection, so it is a much simpler set-up.

    Good Luck
