Just a question for you all. Got a D-Link DI-604 that runs everything in my dorm room. Well, this year I have a 1.6 server in my room (utkcs16.res.utk.edu for you all out there), and my router has been sick with packet collision problems. Any suggestions on how to fix or possibly buy new hardware. No wireless just wired. Thanks ~cc

All I can think of is the usual suggestion to flash in the current router firmware.

If all else fails, the Linksys WRT54GL is my favorite router simply because it runs Linux and there is third-party upgraded firmware like dd-wrt that you can use if you like.

Yes, the 604 has the lastest firmware. I just think the buffer in the 604 isn't built for continuous work. What is the buffer on the wrt54gl?

Nah, my cat6 is good. The log of the 604 says that it drops and renews the ip addy. And I don't know why...

Just because a cable is new, doesn't qualify it as good. I have had many right out of a box bad. Even Certified ones.

If the router is dropping and reconnecting it generally is a indication of a hardware problem, maybe heat. Power it down and let it cool off for several hrs. Then see if the problem presist, 1st without the server. You may want to adjust your packet size. Also you are using a residential router that is not design for heavy use. May want to move up to a bussiness class.

The cable is a year and a half old. It has worked perfectly since day uno. I am also too thinking that it is overheating. When it does have the failure, everything goes down.
