Well my main issue is that I pay for 10 Mbps internet and when I do a speed test (speedtest.net) my internet speed doesn't even pass 3 Mbps.
It is usually around 2.87 Mbps.
I am wondering if it could possibly be my router because its an older one.
The router I have is a Linksys WRT54G.

You guys think if I buy a higher end "N" router it will be faster?

Will a "N" Router make my range further?

Also my modem is made by Motorola I think but I dont have the model number.
I am getting tired of my internet lagging.
BTW my internet is Cable internet from (suddenlink).

    Any idea's guys?

    Thanks in advance!

Also I forgot to mention that I have used 2 different computers and the same thing.

Also when I play my netflix on the ps3 or wii it will stop sometimes to load the video.

What happens if you connect your computer to your modem directly using an ethernet cable?

tijo beat me to it! That was my first question. If the problem persists, when you directly connect at your provider's modem, then it's not your router. Call Sudden-link, or Chat with them at their website, and confirm your download speed should be 10 Mbps.

If you get the speeds you should be getting hooked directly to the modem, we'll help you sort it out. For the record, wireless g should be able of doing around 20Mbps so if there's a problem, it's not with the wireless standard.

Doesn't 10 Mbps mean at the switches? If from there it connects to a block or like 3 or 4 houses, won't the speeds be divided? Or is that a different concept?

Well guys I did what you all said. I hooked my laptop directly to the router and to the modem. The result was this:

So makes me wonder what I should do?

My router is located in the center of the house in the attic.

Should I mind another location for it?

Or should I look into a "N" router?

Thanks for all the help guys!

Well, we know the problem is either the router or the connection between the modem and the router.

Time for test #2. That is download inSSIDer: inSSIDer Download | MetaGeek and check what your wireless environment on 2.4GHz looks like as in how many APs are there in range of your computer.

Sound like the NB is too far from the router for a good strong signal. Start moving closer and retest to see at what distance your speeds come up.
