I bought a Linksys ADSL wireless router 5 years ago, but recently have notice the internet running very slow and sometimes losing signal.

I called my internet provider (TalkTalk - UK) and they ran checks and said there is no faults on there side and that it must be my modem rouiter.

So i am going to buy a new modem router, and as my house has 3 levels/flights/storys i want one with an aerial to reach the third floor.

but as its been 5 years since i bought a modem router i dont know if therev is new modems which are more effective?
The modem i currently have is Linksys WAG200G Annex-A

i was told i need an ADSL wireless router 5 years ago for the size of my house, but are there any more effective modems for my situation besides an ADSL wireless router?

Is there a specific brand/model you would recommend?

i havent got a clue about what i read in modem specs like xxx mbps , i thought tht was the speed of the internet service not the modem?

    any help much appreciated :)

Check if you're having problems with wireless or ADSL.
Post stats of your ADSL connection (attenuation, noise margin etc.) and inSSIDer screenshot with information which wireless network is yours.
Do you use any hardwired computers (Ethernet)? If so do these get disconnects too?

You shouldn't immediately believe your ISP- it's in their interest to blame it one you, not on themselves- so first do some proper checks and then make decisions.

I agree with downloads, especially about the ISP blaming aspect...

Perhaps what you can also do is try borrowing or swapping routers with a neighbour/friend temporarily and see if the problem still exists. If that is not an option, you can always run into Bestbuy to test out a new router and return it after you are done with your testing.
