    What isnt though, right? :D

I used to have a Netgear wireless router and wifi pci card. Gaming was good, hardly lagged but the router would "freeze" up and need to be reset when I would go to a pic intensive myspace site or something like that. It got really frustrating.
    So I bought a Linksys WRT54GL router.

The new router doesnt freeze up like the other did, which is great. However, gameplay is somewhat suffering. It'll be fine for say 2-3mins on Battlefield 2 but then it'll hiccup and my ping will go from 20 to say 800 for 10-15secs and then slowly come back down. Needless to say this is very frustrating and you cant play a FPS shooter with this going on.

Got a new Linksys WMP54gr pci wireless card thinking maybe it'd help...but to no avail.

Any tips/hints for getting rid of this hiccupping/lag? It never used to be anywhere like this with the netgear router....
The range isnt a problem either, as I have good to excellent range and the router/wireless card are one floor away almost right on top of each other.

    I'd appreciate any input guys!

So have you tried with out the router or had a previous router?

The GL can be loaded with custom firmware that can optimize the out put but I have not had any problems with the default software.

My belkin freezes on to many connections being thrown at it at once. Maybe you could have the same type of issue.

Have you tried a DMZ for gaming?

Yeah, I had a Netgear router before....the one that would freeze/lockup on pic intensive sites.
And it wasnt this laggy with it.

My main concern is why I can go 2-5mins without any hiccupping then all the sudden it'll hiccup for 10secs and then return to normal again. :(

And a DMZ for gaming? No idea about that....

Make sure you have the latest firmware loaded. May want to move over to the after-market fw (wrt-rr) too. It sounds like a buffer or heat problem. When you use them for gaming you really load them up and are subject to heat. Make sure you have the lease time set to max.
