    Hi everybody,

    I'm having a weird problem. I own a Dell Vostro 1400 1.6ghz, 3gb ram, Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g card...

What is weird is that for some reason I would at first start connecting to the internet. So after I took out all the bloatware that Dell put in I was still connecting.

Then I decided to take out the Welcome Center that starts wheenver Vista boots up. After I restarted my computer, for some reason the internet would connect but it would be LOCAL only. It would not connect to the internet.

After I would reset my modem and router then it would work. But after I restarted my computer the connection again would be LOCAL only instead of internet.

so I decided to put in the Welcome Center back and all of a sudden the internet connected again.

Now after that I decided I wanted to install the Dell Touchpad software so I could disable the touchpad when I put in a external mouse. Now after I installed it and restarted, the connection AGAIN turned to local instead of internet.

So I restarted my modem and router and then it would connect. After I restarted though the connection would just turn LOCAL again.

Can anybody tell me what is going on? It this some sort of Vista Bug? I really don't want to take out the Dell Touchpad because not having it would be really annoying especially when I want to disable the touchpad when I have a external mouse.

I had similar problem with my Vostro 1400 with Vista that it only could only get local connection. It turns out that I have multiple gateway set up due to my Wi-Fi bridged environment at home. After I turn off the WAN on one of the bridging router, I never have that problem again. Your situation may be different, but it is likely Vista related.
