    Hi all,

I noticed a weird internet connection problem that happens occasionally on my Dell E1505 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. I connect wirelessly to a router upstairs and usually it works fine, but occasionally the connection wouldn't work. The most recent time it happened I was browsing normally and all of a sudden I couldn't connect to any more websites. It seemed like uTorrent and instant messenger were working fine, but the browser (both Firefox and Internet Explorer) can't load any websites. My Vista gadget that displays the weather in the sidebar also stops working. This doesn't seem to be happening too often and a restart fixes the problem but it is puzzling and I can't figure out why it seems to randomly can't connect to the Internet.

    Thanks for your help.

Make sure you already updated the Vista with latest patch.. And also when you have web surfing problem, use nslookup in command prompt to see whether you can resolve the domain name correctly.. Sometimes can due to DNS problem.

It just happened again, this time also I was browsing and chatting online and all of a sudden my browser gives me an error page when I try to load a new website. uTorrent and instant messenger work a little while longer but then also stop working. I unplugged the router and plugged it back in but that didn't help, only restarting helped, and picohat I have already installed everything new in Windows Update.

I went to Manage Network Connections and Properties of my wireless connection. I have Internet Protocol v6 disabled (only using v4) because I heard that v6 is not really supported right now (?). So then I go to properties of Internet Protocol v4 and I have the options selected for Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.

I'm pretty sure this is a problem with the computer or a program and not my router because it's fixed after a restart. But I have no idea why this happens when one second I'm using the Internet normally and it all of a sudden stops working?? It's getting annoying and I can't figure what could possibly be causing this because I didn't change anything to my network settings or etc, it just stops working by itself and everything is fine after a restart.

Some router do not handle simontious (how ever it spelled) connections very well. It's possiable with BT and everything else gong it it's overloading the router. Try stopping BT and see if the problems clear.

What model and age of the router?
