Hello. I hope you all would be able to help!

On my fathers HP laptop, he keeps getting disconnected every 5 minutes or less. A notification pops up saying that the network is unavailable and then he chooses on of the two networks in our house, and then it connects again, all in the span of 15 seconds or so. It's really weird. Now on my laptop, this never happens. But before today, that never happened to him either. I only moved the router to another room, but it's only a few extra yards away and he still has an excellent signal. And I tested it on my laptop, as we speak actually, I am downstairs and I have a poor signal and it has not happened to me yet, so I am confused.

Any ideas? Why would it disconnect him and have him choose the internet connection again? It's not like the router is getting disconnected from the internet service or anything?

    Thanks.

You could try resetting his IP address. I'm just throwing this out there because that's one of the things I would try first.

Hit Winkey+R, type cmd and hit enter, type ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew.

    Hope this helps...

does this happen when his laptop in unplugged? if so, in vista, under advanced power options in power management you can set the wireless card to maximum performance while running on batteries. what sometimes happens is the connection is fine, and then it goes bad when on batteries- this is because the wireless card had been set to maximum battery life when on batteries, and it doesn't have enough juice to connect... could be it.

also, make sure the card is set for maximum performance, under advanced properties of the wireless card. accessible through device manager.
