I'm not really sure of the nature of my problem, so forgive me if I placed it in the wrong section.

My problem is with images on my internet connection. I have broadband, and my computer is tethered directly to the router, but my service has been acting "wonkey" recently. I can read text on pages almost instantly, but simple images seems to be taking far longer than they should. I'm not even talking about high resolution pictures, just tiny type of pictures that you would find in a typical Wikipedia article. It only started doing this recently, and I have no clue whats going on. I'll try to run some scans and see if my computer is infected with something.

Which Antivirus program are you using? Some tend to block certain images as a security mechanism.

Sounds like something's degrading the rate at which you can download images. It could be an A/V or other anti-malware utility that's got a thing for images, or it could be that scanning all large files takes additional time. Have you added an A/V or other anti-malware application recently, or changed the configuration on the one(s) you use?

It could also be something eating up your bandwidth, e.g., if you use torrents, that might be using up an unusually large amount of your bandwidth. Beyond that, it could also be a virus or other malware using your computer as a zombie and covertly sending stuff out when you're connected to the internet. For that, I'd do a really thorough A/V scan to see if it picks anything up.

You might also check the QoS (aka quality of service) settings on your router to see if packets sent to your computer are being sent at reduced priority.

It could also be someone poaching off of your network if you're using a wireless network. For that, I'd check the wireless router's admin webpage to see who's connected to it, and check the logs to see if anything funny shows up (e.g., IP addresses you don't recognize).

Can you access all sites ok, or do they ofter time out? If so check you MTU on your router. DSL should be set at 1492, def is 1500.
