This is driving me crazy (which, admittedly, is a short drive.)

Not infrequently when I'm using my laptop wirelessly (at home, with the router not that far away) I'll be on the web and try to get to a page, and the blasted thing doesn't load. In firefox I get a message saying "server not found" and in IE (that shows you how desperate I am. I actually tried IE...) I get the standard this page doesn't load message.

This even happens when I try to come onto these forums (fori?) One page will load fine, the next will apparently time out. Is this a function of wireless? I never had this problem on my desktop and this is my first laptop.

How can I fix it, or is it just inevitable with the vagaries of wireless?

Ok, i would go to the Linksys Site Downloads (Click here) and select your router, and try a firmware upgrade. I would also go to your wireless cards site, and find the drivers for your card. This sounds like your getting frequent disconnects. So this would be a good start.

That's a normal response from a browser when a page fails to load for whatever reason. Sometimes the site is under load or there's jsut a hiccup in the web.

I've been using the web forever (like since Mosaic) so I know what those are--it's just happening much more frequently on the laptop than it ever did before/does when I'm hardwired. I'll take Nick's advice...

Ping your router, usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Check you are experiencing packet loss. Check your dns addresses by going to ipconfig/all in command prompt. Also do ipconfig/flushdns and then ipconfig/displaydns to check if you have spyware or adware in your machine. If you suspect your machine is infected by spyware or have damaged socket, go to google and search for winsock repair.
