Lenovo (at least used to) white lists their wifi cards, so you can only use a wifi card. If they whitelist cards for the Y470 then you can only use cards that are in the whitelist i.e. in the manual for the Y470. I'd check the user lounge for the yx70 series machines and see what they say there.

FRU numbers are at the end of each line. Good luck finding the Lenovo FRU numbers, on the net, to buy a replacement, even at the Lenovo parts store. I think Lenovo wants you to use their "service" to upgrade the card. Sure, you get a card that works, and self install, but I'll bet if it doesn't have an FRU (on the card info) from Lenovo, you've just broken your warranty.

The term for these cards are "Half-Mini" :twitchy:

    hyelton,
I get a 144 Mbs connection using the Intel .1000 b/g/n wireless card on my Y470. I had to fiddle with the settings on the card, and also on my E3200 router, to achieve the 144 Mbs speed. I get good range on the 802.11N, 2.4 Ghz connection, and that's what matters most of all. Of course, the card can't do 5 Ghz, but that doesn't matter to me. I don't do a lot of "file sharing" on my local network, and my "pipe" to the internet is only 30/5. Even if I had a card that delivered 300-450 Mbs speeds, I couldn't use it. See my speed test.

If you do manage to find/ buy a Lenovo approved FRU Wifi card, please let all of us know WHERE!
