    Hello,
I'd like to stream music from my PC to my stereo wirelessly over wifi. So far I've managed to not buy a single apple product, but it's getting harder to avoid it. Apple's airport express looks like a good solution at $50, except that it requires using iTunes, which I'd like to avoid. Any recommendations for a networked digitial audio receiver that's compatible with windows media player Playto feature? Also, it needs to have analog stereo ouput, my stereo is just a little bookself system with 3.5mm input.

So far I've found these, not sure if they do analog stereo output though.

Netgear NeoTV Streaming Player (NTV200) $80
Problem: it has S/PDIF digital connector, but no analog audio.

    WD TV Live $100
I'm not sure if this one has analog audio output or not.
Confusingly the WD TV Live has wifi built in, but the WD TV Live Plus does not.

If you don't find anything much, consider the Airport Express.

I have one of the earlier (54g) ones and it's awesome.

The sound quality is amazing if you can use the optical out into a DAC or receiver.

I'm looking at the Roku2 HD. I think it would work, it has analog stereo output, hope the wire isn't proprietary. Has wifi too. costs $60.

@cognus - My bookshelf stereo system has a fm receiver. It's just a standard sony unit, cost about $100.

If you're using the Airport Express with a PC and iTunes, I guess you can't use the apple remote. Is that correct?

There are so many ways to do this.

If you simply want to stream the music from PC to Stereo and not get into having to mess with any devices between (like the WDTV) look to do a wireless audio transmitter or bluetooth audio transmitter. These will simply convert the audio signal from the PC and then send it to the Stereo nothing between to be a bother.

If you do go the WDTV route you have to turn on the device, and that means the TV so you can see what your doing go into the proper part of the device etc.

Not nearly as streamline BUT you can then stream movies and do lots of other things, even supports internet radio so you can listen to more stuff.

I use a WDTV the first one and stream wireless just by using a cheap $20 usb wireless adapter on it.
