    Hi all!

I'd like to get an Intel 4965 wireless card for my Vostro 1500 and I'd like to know a few things before I buy it from eBay.

    1. I noticed the card has 3 plugs for 3 antena wires. Does my laptop have 3 also? I only saw 2 on my current Dell card. I also have 4 loose wires, but I don't know where they are from.

    2. What can I do in case I don't have the 3rd wire?

    3. Will I have to do some kind of reset or something in order to be able to use it? Or I just plug it in and it works?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Plug it in, install the driver (I used the DELL one.) If your buying from the guy in Israel (he told me he has 45) they work fine.

My 1720 has the spare wires too. Look for a solid Grey one (no stripes) that is the center wire. White on the left, grey in the middle black on the right.

I bought one from EBay and the WRT600N router from linksys. The routers WiFi works great but the Storage link is A** don't trust it if you actually want to keep your data.

I got this router because it was the best available choice for my new laptops configuration, but if I was looking to upgrade I'd just wait for the full n to come out.

You got what router? were talkinga bout the intel 4965AGN card. The firmware is updated as required by new drivers. That is per the Intel web site info.

So once N is no longer Draft the firmware can be flashed to the ratified version.

Well I have a non-N router at the moment. (makes sense hey?) I am shopping around currently. I did not know you could upgrade the firmware to the real deal, good to know! I stand corrected~

Adding the info from Intel as I'm sure that there are others like me who take what they read on the net with a grain of salt:

    http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-025335.htm

They basically state they don't support directly blah blah but that any updates to functionality will come via the drivers.

What about the mini PCI card? Will it be good for the N to fully work? I already bought it from eBay. :D

My Vostro came with a 1395 Dell wireless card and it stays most of the time at 26-34 MB. The router is no more than 20" away from the laptop. With other laptops I get 54 MB, so I guess it's the mini PCI card's fault, not the router.

I can't give you any guarantees on performance. It works great for me with both my 54G linksys and the wrt600n.

It should work well but your mileage may vary.

I'd like to do this upgrade as well on my M1330, there is a white, black, blue, white/grey, and black/grey wire. Anyone know which wire goes to where?

He doesn't list the grey wire. Could it be the blue one he's talking about?

Sorry I thought I saw grey in that list... On my 1720 the blue one is a bit fatter and the service manual says its for the WPAN card. The Grey and black and white and grey are for the WWAN card.

If it were me and I was having problems with just the black/white wires then I would just try one of the WWAN wires. They are antennaes... not power sources.
