i started a similar thread in the HP forum but would have opened it in this obviously more suitable forum had i seen it.

hoping the experts on here can already tell what settings i must have on just by what i'm clocking currently (135k), i'm told the card is capable of getting 300, just need to know what i need set.

You're not happy with 135? The fastest I've been is 144, with an average of 75.

why be happy with 135 when 300 is seemingly a few clicks away?

The i5100 can only receive at 300Mbps not send.
    Sending is at 150Mbps.

The router bases it's connection on the WLAN cards ability to send hence 150Mbps

well that's disappointing. would you be able to tell me how to get it to 150 at least? i'm sure seeing a difference between it and 135 is next to nothing but i'd still prefer i get everything i can out of it.

Have you enabled channel bonding/wide channel 40MHz both in your wireless access point/router and in 5100 Advanced Properties?

Especially if you are connecting the 5100 to a single band 2.4GHz wireless router such as WRT160N, you need to set 5100's channel width for 2.4GHz band to "Auto" instead of default "20 MHz Only" in its Advance Properties.

Also you need to set the security using WPA2 AES encryption method.

I didn't get the 144 speeds until I disabled WPS.

I also set my router to mixed n and g because some of our computers are still on g. Since my router is not a dual band, when any computer is on g, the router defaults back to 54k. Didn't know this until someone on here pointed that out. So, if I'm on with my n laptop and the wife is on with her g, then the whole network is g.

Also "Fat Channel Intolerant" setting has to be set "Disabled" in 5100 Advanced Properties, otherwise your WRT160N will roll back to use 20MHz channel. But since this setting can be broadcasted by any wireless client to announce that it's not tolerant of wide 40MHz channel in 2.4GHz band, so if there's just another wireless client nearby with its wireless adapter has this setting set "Enabled", then you are out of luck with your WRT160N. You have to move to 5GHz band to use 40MHz channel with dual band wireless router.
