    Hi guys...

After much research and help from members here i made up my mind to get a WNDR3700 which seems to be the Best Dual Band Router out there right now.

Then a few days back i read about the "New Model" WNDR37AV.

    1. Netgear websites are saying it optimized for Video & Gaming.

    2. Some people are saying it is the same router with a new firmware.

    3. Some are saying that the WNDR3700 has hardware issues which cannot be solved with firmwares hence Netgear have lauched the "New Model" WNDR37AV which fixes the hardware issues.

    4. Does the WNDR37AV do Video & Gaming better than WNDR3700...?

It seems that "WNDR37AV provides dedicated video network – Stream video on one network, while surfing the Internet on the other network."

Can the WNDR3700 do this too...???

Which one should i get & why ?

    Thanks

Should I be offended by being called "some people" ;) Just kidding.
It's the same or almost the same thing hardware-wise. The same CPU same amount of RAM etc. There may be small differences somewhere that I may not know about but that's not the point.
There are also no serious issues with WNDR3700 that I know about- there's always someone that encounters problems but that doesn't mean the router is faulty- it may be unit specific, configurations specific, combination of settings of a router and settings of a wireless card etc.
The important part is- WNDR3700 and WNDR37AV are in essence the same thing- it's possible that WNDR37AV has some hardware improvements and it definitely has some firmware changes. The price for both of them is the same- some $150 so if I were to choose I'd go for WNDR37AV.
The reason is pretty simple- both there routers are (or are going to be in case of WNDR37AV) supported by DD-WRT so if anything goes wrong you always have the option of using 3rd party firmware. That said DD-WRT is feature-rich but doesn't offer the best performance that's why you should stick with Netgear firmware. Since WNDR37AV is newer it's gonna be supported for longer time (older routers tend to get firmware updates only when issues are very serious- meaning rarely)
One final recommendation- wait a month or so if you can and let other people test WNDR37AV first. There's always a chance that Netgear wanted to save money so they put some cheaper components in WNDR37AV- like poor PSU or capacitors or something. It happened often enough in the past to be a serious possibility- if that's the case WNDR3700 would come on top again.

EDIT: I just noticed that WNDR3700 is listed as End Of Life product so my recommendation stands

There are lots of unofficial reviews (Netgear forums for example) and it seems that at least for the first few batches, that it's pure marketing and everything is identical thus far.

I just installed the WNDR37av yesterday with the help of netgear :)

I'm afraid to go into the settings as it's working great right now.I have it paired with a D-link wireless modem/router but I have the router/wireless portion of the d-link disconnected and just using the modem portion.

The reason i bought the d-link is it has the best reviews on amazon .I'm using the netgear router for wireless.

One other thing I noticed is I only get 2.4 and not the 5g band. I don't know why ..maybe I should try and stream a movie at the same time as surfing the net and see if the streaming portion works on the 5g band,

Other than that it's been working flawless since yesterday :D

Any help or suggestions why the 5g band isn't working ?

    Thanks !

Hmm, check if your wireless card support the 5ghz spectrum.

Anyways, I'm curious hows the wireless throughput is on mixed mode settings between a pair of computers streaming files to each other.

On my old router, it would slow down to a blistering fast speeds of 500kbps when its going 2.4 N to 2.4 G at a short clear line of sight range.

    I wonder how well it does on 2.4 N to 2.4 G, 2.4N to 5.0 N, 5.0 N to 2.4 G. I hope at least 8mbps under wpa2 psk.

What is the model number on the router? Some users have reported that they haven't changed the model and hence are using identical hardware.

Well i bought the WNDR37AV knowing that the WNDR3700 would be in the box(I read that thread on the netgear forum) which is was.

I got the newer box which is black with 01R3 which is the latest. I bought it from Amazon.

It doesn't say in the specs if it supports 5ghz spectrum. Here's my specs ..please take a look as I might be missing something.

All it mentions is that it's supports G/N no mention of the bands 2.4 or 5ghz.

    Thnaks :)

I don't know the complete technical detail why but some of the hardware found in 5.0Ghz wireless N implementation can be used to support wireless A, since 802.11a only uses the 5Ghz spectrum and mostly used in corporate, educational environments.

For the best chance for a 802.11n @ 5.0Ghz support is look for 802.11a support with 802.11n support (802.11a/b/g/n) or the word dual band.
