I want to set up some parental controls with the router, and I think I need some help doing it.

I want to set up the router to not allow my daughter's laptop, ipod, and school laptop to connect between 11pm and 5am.......is this possible?

    Thanks,

    Steve

You will need to install Netgear Live Parental Controls and manage it from there I believe.

I have not look at the 3700 Netgear firmware. But if it's like my Prosafe router you have several options with it. It supports schedules (3).

What you do is like this.

I recommend using Reserved IP's, this will assign an IP that is based on MAC address then assign it to a group. Use the Def group (0) for this. The reason will be explained later. (Every one is thrown into this group by default.)
So every time they go on line it will be assign the same IP address every tme. Then setup the schedule based on that group.

For your other PC's do the same and assign it to another group, you do not need to use reserved IP. You will be needing to password protect your PC to restrict access. Under the security firewall you need a rule to grant outbound traffic. Use your groups for this, just faster and easier.

Now with all hardware accounted for your set and also if one of their friends come over and jump on line they will be thrown in to the def group which has the schedules.

I think the Parental Control software is just a program to make it easier to setup. You should be able to do in manually.

That parental control software is useless, doesn't do what I'm looking for.

I'll look into the other option.

I would think it would be a simple thing, put in the IP address, and set time blocks.......but things are never that simple.

If your still under the Free Support time with Netgear give them a call. They should know if there software/firmware will work.
