    WLAN off upon startup

    my laptop used to start up with WLAN on, but now its always off upon startup, how can i change this setting?

    It might be disabled in the BIOS. Try entering ur BIOS at boot up and check to see that the Wireless Adapter is set to enabled.

    And how long ago did u notice this change?

    just today, i've never been in the BIOS before, so im not sure how it would've gotten changed in the first place

    Well stuff happens, you might have done something recently that triggered the WLAN to a "disabled" state; And that "trigger" would have been written to the Registry. So if u don't want to go into the BIOS, the other option u have is to do a System Restore. What OS are u running? This should be similar for XP and .Vista. Go to Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->System Restore. Restore the computer to yesterday or something...a time when it was working normally.
