OK, I've got the Intel 3945 ABG mini PCI-E adapter in my S96J, connecting to a Linksys WAP54G access point. I'm in the SAME ROOM as the AP, yet my connection keeps dropping, and my reception is only 1/5 bars. We have no cordless phones or anything on the 2.4 ghz frequency, and I just upgraded both the AP's and my adapter's drivers last night. I've made sure my adapter's settings have all the power management stuff turned off, and I've just ran out of ideas.

Why is my connection so bad only 20 feet away from the AP?

Another question, too. How can I keep the connection online when I shut the laptop?

I believe Intel has had some problems with this particular model. Have you checked the Intel website?

alright, ive updated the drivers and software, turned off all power saving settings, done all i can - even got a new router, and im STILL getting 1-2 bars and frequent disconnects in the SAME ROOM AS THE ROUTER! it has to be the adapter, as my friends with different laptops have no problem connecting, and get 5 bars. any tips?

You should contact the manufacturer and see what you can do.
