I'm Curious what router everyone prefers/owns. Please post why you prefer that router brand and/or model. Thank you!
I have a Linksys WRT54G - VERY LONG WIRELESS RANGE - Setup is a little complicated. No problems with it and i have had it for 2 months!

Netgear all the way!

NetGear, see my review LOL

U.S. Robotics.
very very Stable and easy to configure. -

Netgear all the way.
I've tried linksys and dlink, but its not worth the trouble.

Belkin for ease of use, price, router has never been rebooted in 3 months (my previous smc had to be rebooted every week )and the firmware can be updated within the router (although they don't release new firmware very often...); the "average" range (not that bad but i've seen better signals) is my concern, but i'm covered for what i need so, no big deal.

Netgear is the best in my opinion.
I've gone through 2 linksys units and neither one lasted more than 6 months and gave me troubles with dropped connections all the way. Since getting the netgear, I've been trouble free for the last 18 months. I'll never get a linksys again after that experience.

Go Netgear!

I went through two d-link wireless routers in under 2 weeks, and then just decided to go with the Linksys w/the speedbooster. I haven't had ANY problems with it in almost two years.
It is the wrt54gs model, and it supports our 2-3 machines on the network at once, with ease. I love it.
I'm open to new ideas though, so I'd like to hear what it is about netgear that everyone seems to like so much. -
My first router was the Edimax BR-6104KP. It's a wired router with a USB print server. I liked it a lot for simplicity of use (very simple, intuitive web interface) and reliability - no problems with anything whatsoever. That's why I decided to give Edimax a shot in the wireless department as well. Just yesterday I bought and set up their EW-7207APg wireless access point / switch, which is essentially a wireless router with modified firmware to remove routing capabilities (since I didn't want to ditch my current router). Setup was a breeze for the most part and so far it works flawlessly, even despite our cordless phones transmitting in the same frequency band of 2.4GHz.
So for now - Edimax. -
Linksys all the way. They were a great router and now that Cisco owns Linksys, you will only see greater things to come.
-
what's Cisco??...i didn't know another company owned Linksys -

I use a Netgear CG814WG 802.11b/g router with my cable. Works great, especially for gaming. I have around 10-20 ping on some servers (the good ones!) .
Haven't lost a signal since I connected to it!
Netgear! -
i use a linksys wrt54g router had for about a year and never a problem with it the range is good connecion speed is good as well so i guess i will stick with linksys
-
I have had tow netgear wireless routers. An older b router and the newer MIMO router. Both worked great.
-
I have an Asus WL500G.
This one came with a printerserver.
Before this one i had a Linksys, also a good one. -
I have a Linksys WRT54GC
-
The Netgear WRG614 never worked for me. I tried two of them before getting my Linksys WRT55AG router. It's a far better product. I also have a Linksys device for my VOIP phone service. It's been excellent. Unfortunately, my notebook's Intel 2200BG sucks. I ordered an Atheros AR5006XS to replace it.
-
Linksys for me... has worked flawlessly since Day 1!
WRT54G -
Same with me AuroraS, a flawless router!

Full Cisco wifi network all over my building. But it aint flawless when it comes to public areas.
Cisco is more of a business oriented networking company. Actually one of the most important when it comes to networking, cannot even begin to name how many network related products they produce. I am not so sure if it is one owning the other (them and linksys) I think it might be just a partnership. But I did notice some linksys products with the cisco logo on them.
Edit: Linksys is in fact a division of cisco ... Just look at the logo that appears on their site -
I think they bought Linksys a while back.
-
I have always liked Linksys, I think they make good qualilty stuff. If you run into problems though, I think their support is a bit lacking.
-
I first got into the wireless world with a Netgear .b access point... added it to my netgear wired router, and at the time, the AP was well over $200 CDN, and the pcmcia card just over $100... that was roughly 4 years ago I think...
Ran that setup until a few weeks ago... switched to a USR G with a builtin print server...
my previous setup is being shipped to the Carribeans... setting up a school there with wireless -
I have a linksys and love it had since this past february of this year and still working great! Yeah!
-
From my experience. Netgear seem to be more beginner friendlly. It's almost plug and play. Linksys on the other hand require a little more tinkering of intermediate user. So I'd have to say Netgear since not everyone wireless user out there are familiar with wireless set ups
-
I like my D-link. Have had it for a year and have never had a problem. I have WEP enabled. Very easy to use and configure. No complaints here. Would but another D-link if something ever happened to this one. Signal strength is AWESOME. Can use it anywhere in the house, garage, or in the yard. 8)
-
Netgear. I used to be a Linksys user, but had two die on me within a year. Then I got my current Netgear for $30 AR... it works great, looks good... couldn't ask for more.
-
My Belkin Pre-N is my second router...second in like a month haha....I had the Belkin Wireless G router before this and it sucked so I bought this one after reading reviews about its extended range and speed...
Didn't know too much about routers before this and didn't do too much reading, although I should have, but I'm happy with my purchase...I've read in some forums that Belkin's products are weak in the router and firewall firmware, so they're only good for access points, since their signal strength and speed are quite good.
Oh well, I'm fine with it as I don't understand why router firmware has to be good...I understand the whole firewall thing though, but I'm not too concerned with hackers and such.
Cheers,

I have a Actiontec wireless router. Got it from qwest DSL when we subscribed. It's been going strong for about 2 1/2 years. Wireless only for about a year and a half, I think. Has an occasional hick-up, but seems far less frequent in the past year.
If anything were to change, it would be ditching dsl and going to cable. -
I've got a Linksys, don't remember what model (and the router's all the way downstairs )
Regardless, I've had it for ~1 year, and it's not skipped a beat. (Just other things, like unplugged ethernet cables and firewalls... -

D-Link DI-524, got it with PCMIA card for 20 after MIR, and it works great, set up in a hour (First network)
-
I was pretty sure linksys was going to be one of the top routers. Iwould also have thought netgear to be neck and neck with linksys.
-
I have a Belkin F5D7632 ADSLmodel/wireless router. Easy to set up and to get the wireless secure.
It's tripped up a few times, mainly due to me "playing" with it ; apart from that, nothing major.
My verdict (after about 1 month of use):
Pros - inexpensive kit, easy to use, does what it says on the box, email tech support is good
Cons - possibly not as many advanced settings as other devices, telephone tech support is poor, many other users report Belkin is slow in releasing firmware updates.
This is the first router I've owned, so I can't give an opinion on any others. -
I have a US Robotics router, with "125mbps" bursting technology if u use all the same hardware...hmm...i should test it out now that i have a home network finally up. Although...i have had problems with disconnects sometimes...
-
Did you try updating the firmware stevie. If the problem bothers you then just post saying what is going on and what is wrong.
-
any1 of these use the atheros super g? certain Airlink routers have em. speeds up 802.11g also. just like speedbooster.
not sure tho -
netgear is deffinatly the best

-
i swear by linksys.
-
My 2 favorite brands are Linksys and Netgear - but each router brand has its good and the bads. -

I agree with Nick, I love netgear because of the ease of use. Linksys are good too, but not as easy, but have more advanced options. It all depends on the user.
-
Linksys right here!

Then again, I'm always willing to test out another brand. -
I've had both... had some intermittent issues with connecting to Netgear when the SSID broadcasting was disabled... no such problem with my new Linksys, but I've had two Linksys routers die on me with less than a year of use each.

We use Cisco and Linksys at work - they are good too, however, I get a stronger connection with Netgear routers for some reason.
At home, I've only had Netgear.
Just to note - I am the same distance away, etc.
Remember Dr., it's an opinion.
