    Hi,

I've been trying to setup a VPN client on my computer to access my desktop at work. For some reason, Vista Home Premium x64 doesn't seem capable of handling the VPN software.

I tried to start the Remote Access Connection Manager without any success, which causes a dependency problem with the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager, which means no VPN for me (as far as I can tell). Telephony and Plug'n'Play services are running, as are the DCOM server, the RCP and the Secure Socket Tunnel (whatever that is) services.

Somebody has a solution? Please keep in mind that I'm not a power user or a techie, I'm trying to stay away from the registry if possible and clean installs and such aren't my kind of thing, just so you know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

What application are you using for the VPN?

It's called RAS, some tech guy at work told me that it was some company named RAS and Microsoft who did this, but I'm not sure that what he's saying actually make sense. Anyways, I've looked all over the net and apparently, Vista x64 can't start the Remote Access Connection Manager anyhow. Somehow, Microsoft fugged this up real bad.

The only way would be to setup a Virtual Machine (not VMWare because that's another thing that is not compatible with Vista x64 apparently) and setup a 32 bits machine from which I could use the damn VPN. What a hassle.

The OP is using Vista, so the NT4 service pack won't help.

I wonder that too, the internet is actually full of that question, does hamachi work with vista 64? but I haven't found a conclusive answer.

I didn't see RAS, did you?

But what I don't understand is if RAS is a 32 bit applications, doesn't vista 64 uses the compatibility mode to execute it?
