    hey-
I work at a high school and I want to connect to the network there. The network tech lady seems to lack knowledge of vista, networks, and computers in general. But thats the way things are so I'll have to deal with her getting me setup on the network.

Today when she was trying to get me connected (not wireless) she ran into a problem. The problem is that Vista Home Premium cannot join a domain according to the system information. I read the message where it says that, but I cant believe that there would be such a limitation and no way around it. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Conor

Yea, that is pretty much a limitation of Home Preimium (and XP 'Home').

I'm not sure if there is a workaround yet. I know there was one for XP Home

    hmmm... lame!
That doesn't make any sense to me because Home Premium is obviously supposed to be better than Home Basic. And Vista Business, I'm assuming, is more oriented to business and lacks some of the features Home Premium has. So what is the option for a non-business user that wants to join a domain? I'm not one to join in all the microsoft bashing, but this really upsets me.

To answer your question about the option for a non-business user: Vista Ultimate.

Incidentally, X-Setup, the workaround Danny2001 mentioned, actually does support Vista now:

Keep in mind that X-Setup kind of shoe-horns a Home edition into joining a domain, so you may want a sticky reminder on your sidebar to TURN OFF the domain before going home for the day.

you can upgrade to vista business (if you don't need the media center and other media oriented features) or ultimate (if you want to have everything, including the kitchen skin)
