    Hi,
I am having a really annoying problem with my internet connection.

Randomly, but it seems after quite a few hours, I loose all connection out of my PC. No internet, email etc. I cannot even ping my modem (connected via network, cat5). Repairing doesn't work and I have to reboot to get the connection back.
Is there anything that I can do to stop this or at least start trying to hunt the problem down.
I have Vista home premium, windows live mail, zone alarms, avg anti virus, skype and DAP installed (and more but I'm thinking these my be the main ones that could affect problem).
Any help would be great :)

If other pc are not effected, it would indicate a HW problem. But first check all of the Energy Management settings in the Control Panels and port settngs. Make sure it (networking hardware wire and wireless) is set to always on, Full Power, Constantly on. Alot of time MS will turn them off to save power. If dailup, make sure you have "Keep Connection Alive", so it will not disconnect you.

If that does not fix it start with skype and DAP. If these are not vista certified prg they may be causing the problem. The others should be OK.

Skype can consume all of your bandwidth. You need to make sure you put limits on it.

Okay, so I went into network connections and disabled the "allow computer to turn off power". Fingers crossed that is the problem. I will let ya know in a few days if it the problem returns or not. Fingers crossed. What a stupidly hidden feature.
    thanks

just noticed in device manager/ network adaptors that my microsoft 6to4 adaptor has yellow warning triangle and says
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)".
Is this relevant. I have tried to "find solution" and have reinstalled it.

Sounds like a driver issue. See if there is a update for it. May have to reinstall it.

I had a similar problem with the wireless on both my notebook and desktop, I'd be on for a little while and then I'd lose my connection (except I just disabled the card and started it up to get it working again). I updated the drivers for my wlan cards and I haven't had a problem since. The driver solution seems totally logical.

Still no luck. I went and updated the driver. Thought that would do it but no. I have also gone to the hp website and updated anything else I could. I have disabled dap but still have skype as I still need it. It's hard to imagine that skype could be causing this problem as it doesn't seem to for the many others who use it. Any other ideas?

    Same problem here :((

My wireless connection (which goes through a router) constantly drops out. I am using Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

It is definitely not the router that is causing the problem because there are 3 other PC's that connect to the router and their wireless connection is perfect. Also, the router (Netgear) has the latest drivers.

I have ping'ed the Default Gateway that my notebook is using and it sometimes comes up with the following response:

ping xxx.xxx.x.x (xxx.xxx.x.x is the default gateway)

Pinging xxx.xxx.x.x with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from xxx.xxx.x.x: bytes=32 time=41ms TTL=64
    Reply from xxx.xxx.x.x: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64
    Reply from xxx.xxx.x.x: bytes=32 time=73ms TTL=64
    Reply from xxx.xxx.x.x: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=64

    Ping statistics for xxx.xxx.x.x:
    Packets: Sent-4, Received=4, Lost=0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum=1ms, maximum=73ms, Average=29ms

Sometimes in the ping statistics, one of the "Reply from....." lines says "General Failure" or "Request timed out", which in turn results in 1 Lost Packet.

What does this all mean ? Please help.....

I have been trying to fix the wireless connection on my notebook for about a week and have wasted nearly 10 hours trying to fix it

You are loosing connection to the router. Check the energy CP and make sure it's not powering it down.

This needs to be corrected. This is a driver issue. There should be an option for updating or reinstall the driver.
