I had a Toshiba laptop with XP and an Atheros 802.11b/g wireless-LAN adapter and had no problems with dropping connections after I tossed my 2.4ghz cordless phones and bought Panasonic Dect. 6.0 phones. I just changed to a Sony laptop VGN-FZ290 with Vista and the above intel adapter and the connection drops at least once every 1/2 hour for about a 30-40 seconds. I have the latest driver and am using a Netgear WGR614 v6 router. Any suggestions?

Try reseting the router to its default state first, then make sure the channel width is set to auto or 20MHz and 802.11 mode to auto, if you have these in the router. Also, are you using Windows or an application that came with your Sony to manage you connections?

Make sure your energy managment is not dropping power to the card. You need to have it set to Constantly ON, in the CP and advanced settings for the card. since the service runs in background, MS inturpets as not being used by the user, since you did not use direct contact with the driver. Otherwise MS does not understand what ON means.
