Ok, i have a really strange problem and i just don't have clue how it comes.
Let's start at the beginning, i moved about 2 months ago to a rental house, there already was a wireless router there. I have two computers a desktop and thinkpad r60. The desktop is connected with a wire to the router, while my thinkpad is wirelessly connected. The network is secured by a static wep key.
Ok, this al worked fine for about a month and a half. Then suddenly without any reason my thinkpad(!, the dekstop would still surf the web without any problem) wouldn't connect anymore, so after changing all the settings(on the router and thinkpad) a few douzen thimes back and forth, i decided to reset the router. Problem solved.
But well today it crashed again so i reset it again, but within 15 minutes it's crashed again. The only reason i can come up with is that i was downloading through utorrent(a old television show that isn't broadcasted anymore, in case you were wondering) at a speed of about 100 kb/s.
So any suggestions?

having to power reset your router 3 times in 1.5 months isn't great, but isn't unusual. if you had to do it every 15 mins of every day, then i'd worry about it.
as it stands, i'd say it's probably not something to worry about unless it starts to get more and more frequent. -
ok, thx. I was mainly worried because i had to reset it twice in half an hour. But well it's been running for a few hours now, so maybe it was nothing.

i was in an apartment for about 3 years. wifi network was great for almost all 3 years except for this very weird 2 week period where i had to power reset the router several times a day. one day it just started working ok again. who knows.

Make sure your router is on a GOOD power strip. Some of them (especially older or cheap ones) will let bad power through, and the router could be sensitive to that.

When that happens launch Net Stumbler and see if someone is trying to hack in. And it could just be that the unit is overheating and shutting down. May check to see if there are any firmware updates. Common problem with some combo residental routers. The sole reason I like seperate hardware.

ok, today it crashed again(just for the record only the wirelles crashes, the lan keeps working fine). Im starting to get irratet, i don't think someone is hacking in, it's protected by a wep key. And the power strips seems unlikely cause the desktop pc is on the same powerstrip.

What I did was actually very simple... Go to:
Right-click My Computer
Properties
Hardware Tab
Device Manager
Remove your Wireless Network Card.
Refresh (Scan for new hardware...)
Windows should automatically install it again without any drivers required from CD.
Try again to connect and see how long it stays on. It fixed my problem. Good luck! -
Have you noticed anything else weird that happens at the same time? Maybe a cordless phone you or a neighbor recently purchased is causing interference.
Very strange wireless problem
