I have a WEP password protected (Regular password didn't work?) connection and it is extremely slow. It gets down to like .5 MBs download speed if I haven't reset the modem/router in the past day and after I reset it it gets up to about 2.5 MBs the upload speed is pretty standard at around 2 MBs. My Internet compared to my average ISP is like one tenth what the average is. I still have a 'b' router and am wondering if this is the problem? Anything I can do to see if it is my router is the problem?

Have you tried connecting your computer directly to the DSL/cable modem and bypassing the router to see if your internet spped improves significantly? If it does then the router might be the culprit causing the slowdown.

Check your antivirus or any other protections. It might have some effect. First goto 2wire.com click on speedmeter and see your internet speed. After that, exit your antivirus completely and repeat the same step. Do you see any difference in the speed? I had KIS10, when it was on, I got like 2.5 mbps but when I exited it, kaboom, 5.8 mbps. So give a shot.

Still slow if I turn antivirus off. I'll try connecting directly to the modem tomorrow.

Try updating the firmware on your router. Look around your router for the make and model. Once you've done that search google for whatever router you have and try to find a site that provides the firmware. I had the same kind of problem with my router.
