Just thought I'd share about my experience with this brand new product. I am not a VZW employee or anything. Just a guy. I saw this thing mentioned in some tech blogs and got excited about it. So today I sprung for it and so far I am glad I did.

    Here is a link.

Took my old USB727 modem off the network and upgraded to this one. It says it is a MIFI2200 if you are interested. So far, I have only used it as a USB Modem since it has to charge for up to four hours before use. You plug it in and it has a virtual CD drive that pops up and offers to install the VZW software. I did and was ready to go in about 3 minutes. While it was installing it said something about a GPS device. Not sure what that is yet as it doesn't have GPS capability advertized.

Once installed you login using the software if you have it connected via USB. It says that it is like a typcial wifi hotspot when using that way. I will test it as soon as the battery is up and running.

There is where the problem lies. The batter says it will work for four hours constant usage and 40 hourse on standby. It has a power button so I will be hitting that often when I'm using it with my ipod touch. I will also be getting the car charger adapter so I can plug it in on long journeys and use it in the car with my laptop and ipod touch.

    Cool so far!

That is really cool, but it seems very situational.

Atleast where I live hotspots are everywhere, Id never pay the $70 a month or so for the mobile braodband, and if I had the service, the phone can use it on its own and my laptop I would just get the cheaper adapter.

If it was fast enough to break out and have 3 people go online and play some online games together or something, that would be really interesting but 3g is barly enough for one person IMO let alone 5 like that advertise it as.

You are right, it is situational. For example, if you want to have more than one person doing simple internet stuff. I got it because it acts like a USB modem which I had. But adds the flexibility of going online with other devices at the same time. So I can have my laptop online and while I am listening to music and decide to get some new tunes via my ipod touch and the itunes store. Then, I can imagine on long trips my wife wanting to go on facebook with her laptop in the car. No need for me to configure her laptop with my USB modem. Just fire up the Mifi and have her laptop already set up to connect when it is available. I plan on carrying this thing everywhere with me so that I can get online at a moment's notice. Since it comes with the VZW Manager on it and it installs as soon as you hook it up I could even hook up to another computer.
