Hi i am having problems with my new M60. Heres what happens. Im at my friends house and he has a wireless network set up and when i am connected, my MBPS should be at 54. But after a few moments it goes down to 24, 15, evn 2! when i try to play a game i lag too much and cant play. its more like spikes. one point its at 54..the next 20, and then back to 54. I can go onto the internet and surf but when it gets down to 2 its too slow. i tried calling tosiiba and the guy said that my cordless phones freqency was interfering with my router. ok then how come my friends laptop is completely fine? is there a way to change which frequency my m60 uses? i need help

Might want to try the driver from Intel's website if you have one of their cards. Sometimes it works better. Also upgrading the rotuer's firmware can occasionally help. Cordless phones do interfere with wireless signals. Maybe you could unplug it, even just to rule it out.

    B,

You probably have an Intel 2200BG or a 2915ABG wireless card in your notebook. This is actually a known/reported problem on this site. I believe it has something to do with an aggressive power management scheme to save power. I remember reading that it takes more power to maintain a 54Mbps connection than it does an 11Mbps connection. I guess they went 1 step further to drop to 1Mbps to really save power.

The only problem is that some have reported that this drop has caused lossed connections and it only happens when connected using G mode, not B mode.

Below is the link where this discussion is happening.

Suggested work-arounds is to use the older v8.x drivers as this doesn't have the aggressive PM techniques applied. I use the lastest drivers from the Intel site.

Personally, I also have this issue, but it doesn't drop the actual connection. As soon as I start downloading again, it immediately jumps back up. You might have to set the router/wifi card to G mode only. I think in B+G mode is one of the causes to lossed connections.

I'm gonna move this to the Wireless/Networking section for more hits.

I had the same problem on my Asus W3V with the Intel 2915AGB. Switched over to the latest drivers from the Intel site, and everything's been working fine.

well i installed the latest intel drivers for my 2915abg wireless thing. so far so good...but when im not using the internet ie word processing etc the mbps will drop to 36, but it never goes down below that and when i start browsing the internet again, it jumps back up to 54. i would prefer if it stayed at 54 but as long as i get the speed when i need it i guess ill have to live with it.

It's actually better when it drops because it consumes less power. As long as it goes back up when you need it, you're fine. Also, your internet speed will not be affected by the drop since most high-speed internet is approx 3MBits, it may hit upto 8Mbits max, which is still fast enough to keep up.
