Hi: I just 2 days ago received a Vaio Z690 which I ordered from Sony Style Canada. It is absolutely amazing an I like it in every was possible, except I have one small (but annoying) problem. Every so often, my internet will cut out, and while Vista will show that it is connected, it still does not work. Then, I have to disconnect, and reconnect to internet to fix the problem. I am using and i believe I am using and Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN. If you need any more information please let me know.

    Thanks

I'm having the exact same problem with a brand new Asus G50Vt. I already had it replaced once and the new one is doing the same thing. The guy at the store said something about the new generation of wireless cards doing this.

I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router. When it happens I'm still able to ping 4.2.2.2 and my router, which supposedly means the wireless card for whatever reason is dropping the DNS server off of your router. I'm still attempting to find a fix for this that doesn't require returning the computer. There's not much information available though, I've tried posting on the Asus member forums but am not having any luck getting any kind of response.

If anyone here has any advice or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated, this is quite irritating to be happening on a computer that I paid a good chunk of money for.

Did you guys update to the latest NIC driver? Try different channels on your Wi-Fi router.

btw, I tried updating the 5100 driver from both Sony's site (which simply didnt work) then from Intel directly (which did work), however, it did not fix the connection issue. If you can get anywhere with Sony Canada feel free to post their solution, because they were absolutely useless when I called. I knew more about the problem than they did, even though it (the known problem) is posted on Sony's and Intel's sites.

Follow this thread to the qoute from Intel. I did what they said to do and it helped with mine big time. Mine will now pick up the wireless connection in about 5 seconds after the computer starts up, vs sometimes it would flash between a red X and gray signal bars.
