    Hi All

I was lucky enough to receive today a Vaio SB19 via the US (im in Aus).

Problem I have is that i can connect to my router and access the internet via wireless no problem but via the lan cable, the laptop does not recongnise anything. Its as if nothing was connected at all.

    Wireless Connection --> Works fine
Connection via lan cable --> notebook not detecting at all

I tried via cable on an old laptop with XP works fine as well as an netbook with Windows 7 Starter and that worked fine as well.
The controller is called "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller"

PS: Running Windows 7 Home 64 bit and have done all Windows update. Tried disabling/enabling, uninstall/reinstall and driver is up to date.

    Thanks all

What is the health status of the wired adapter in Device Manager?

Is the wired adapter enabled in the BIOS?

Is there some control switching between LAN and WLAN, such that LAN is disabled when WLAN is enabled?

It says the device is working properly

Not sure. Is this the same as enabling and disabling through device manager? If so, already tried and still no luck :(

There seems to be an on or off for the WLAN but for the sake of it I tried switching it to off and still no results

On my Vaio you shut down or restart the computer and press the F2 key as it reboots. If you have given your computer a password you will need to enter it. The bios will come up and you will only be able to use the direction keys to manipulate it. If you will give more info like the complete model and what operating system it will be easier to help out. You should have some indication of weather the wifi is on by looking in the task bar. There should also be Vaio control center and you can look at your wireless conection to see if it is enabled or disabled.

If healthy in DM, then probably enabled in the BIOS.

Perhaps try another cable just in case that cable is not contacting properly in the notebook LAN port. Also, inspect the port to be sure its contacts look good and clear.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be trying that later on today.

Say if its the LAN port on the notebook that is not working properly, will using one of those dock stations with an ethernet port work?

Would seem reasonable to assume yes.
