    I have Asus WL-530g.
I try to connect the Windows 2003 server using built-in an Windows XP's VPN client and never get connected using that router.
When i bypass the router and plug a laptop directly to the cable modem or use my brother's D-Link 634M router i get connection within 2-3 seconds.

I spent several days trying to figure out what is wrong with the router. I
uploaded newest firmware into it and tried different configurations
(without firewall, without WPA and WEP, without NTP, factory settings, virtual server TCP 1723, too). There is no any settings in Configuration related to VPN thus i suppose the VPN pass-through feature should work independent of Configuration, but i was suspicious of that router after i found that the router does hang on if using the NTP server time synchronization.

I tried to get help by ASUS Technical Team 2 times, but my case get
closed with no answer to me.

Please let me know if you have any information about VPN passthrough on that unit.
I don't want install OpenWRT firmware.

    Thanx zx10guy,
Yes, the server has public address and i try connect it from internet.
I even put my laptop in DMZ and still couldn't get connection.

I don't have possibility to touch server at all. Business rules.

I understand that some cheap routers don't support VPN pass.
    What i don't understand is:
    1. Asus states the router has VPN pass feature.
    2. Asus Technical Supp. piss me out.
If they don't know what's going on or they know, but don't want tell me that (??) they should answer me. Is it too much?

    I gonna call them tomorrow.

PS. I have bought Asus laptop too (over $2000). Never buy Asus again and tell it everyone i know.

    zx10guy,
you completely don't understand me. I don't care who and how does secure the server (i mean -> Win2003) in my COMPANY. No one pays me for that.

As stated in my first post i can connect VPN server using DLink 634M or if connected to cable modem directly. Never using Asus WL-530G.

I am interested in MY own router . Why MY router does NOT pass VPN traffic. Asus states in manual and on asus.com it does.
I am interested why Asus does NOT care of MY router and my written support requests.
If they piss me out with small problem i don't want to know how they will piss me out with my big problems in future, if any.

I am interested how to get VPN pass working on MY router, if possible.
Please let me know if anyone knows something reliable about WL-530g.

    Regards,
    kjoniec

    Code:
    Your laptop->Asus router->Internet->whatever your company uses->Windows 2003 server
Yes. "diagram" above is correct. Sorry, if i wasn't descriptive too much.
By the way: "whatever your company uses" is very expensive firewall, cisco :)

edit: ok I'm changing what I said for one reason. I just realized that is the same mini router that I was interested in and will require VPN passthrough to work as well.

It seems that you are using the Windows server built in VPN client. What model Cisco router do you have? You should use its VPN if possible.

I've got a Cisco 2600 at the office and use a Cisco PIX501 at home and the Cisco software client when away from home.

    Hi,
    My connection diagram WAS:
    Asus laptop->Asus WL-530g->Cable modem->Internet->Cisco xxx->Windows 2003 server

I don't know Cisco router model at this time. As mentioned earlier i am not responsible for company's staff and any way that forum is NOT the best place to reveal that information. My company has 200 remote users and VPN just works.
I bought DLink router in meantime and it works perfect. I had to do it because of a lot of DBA task last days, but I will "attack" Asus again this or next week.

    ZJChaser,
when i used CheckPoint VPN client when worked for prior employer-no problems. I don't know Cisco router model at this time, but i will check it on Monday.
    Don't buy Asus router!
My new fast and reliable router is DLink DIR-635. Works good. I have no time to test it professional way, but i will do next vacations. My brother says the DI-634M is good, too.

    Regards,
    kjoniec

I think I'm just going to pick up a Linksys WTR54GS for my travel router. I don't know why I didn't even check linksys before.
