I recently bought a TV Tuner Card for my home computer. I love it and it works great (Its a ATI TV Wonder from Best Buy I got for $30)
I have a custom desktop (2.8GHz, 1024RAM, 80gb harddrive, XP Pro) and a compaq presario 2594US laptop. I have a wireless network for my house from a linksys router.
    My question is:
Is there anyway to utilize the PCI Card from my desktop on my laptop, so I can use my Laptop as a portable TV?
I was trying I guess to find a way of loading the software on my laptop, but when it goes looking for the device (card) to run, I can tell it to find the hardware on the Desktop.
I'm sure I could use a PC Remote system (like Norton) to simply display what is on my Desktop's desktop, but my experience with these programs (and I do have some experience with them) is that the dsiplay lags, something I do not want to occur with TV images. Of course, if I did get the Remote PC software, and get it to work with minimal lag, I could use it to access my home computer at work, and feasibly watch TV at work.
Any thoughts on the ease of this setup? Please keep in mind I have setup PCRemote on a network to access a server behind a wireless network before. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Could you perhaps record the TV signal to the drive on the desktop and simultaneously stream that file over the network to your laptop? It would retain lip synch, but the laptop would still lag from off the air.

    First PC = Vic-20, 8" 128KB Home-Brew Floppy Drive ... Current Rig = eMachines m6805 ... Quantum Leap?

I like this idea. You'd notice little to no degradation of quality, at the cost of a small delay in-between viewing it "live" on a TV and streamed from the computer. Actually I like it so much I might pick up a TV tuner to try this myself. :)

I do like that idea too, I just have to find a way to do it. Right now the ATI software doesn't create the file in my directory until its done recording. I think it records to a temp directory, I just need a way of accessing the file as its being edited.
On a side note, I went ahead and loaded up PCAnywhere, but as I figured, I can't hear the audio or view the video itself, though it still comes up on my home computer.
So at least I can record a show, transfer it to my office computer or laptop where ever I am, and watch it. Sweet.

Does your PVR program have an 'instant replay' option? Mine (Hauppauge USB2 PVR2 with WinTv 2k) allows Tivo like real time replay by writing a buffer file while you are watching. My desktop is too slow to handle the TV box or I'd try it. Have you tried the built in Win XP remote desktop program? Or maybe Net Meeting or similar video chat software?
