How could I use another computers connection to get the internet on my computer? They are two laptops, in two seperate rooms. Running a cable is an option, but would like to acomplish it some other way. What are my options?

Basically this person picks up wifi through a +9dbi antenna on a 500mw wireless N wifi adapter that hangs out her window and is connected USB. This isn't an option for me cause the signal doesn't reach my side of the building. Already tried it.

Any opinions are welcome, thank you.

You need to add an access point

Here is a link to a Hardware solution that will do what you want

    http://synetusa.com/

This is a usb adapter that can be configured easly as an AP
Read up on it, after a lot of research it looks like your best choice

You could always pay for it. I suspect that the girl with the adapter/antenna hanging out the window isn't paying for the service.

It's free public WiFi. We are deployed in the desert. :)

She picks it up with one adapter hanging outside her window. And now I want to broadcast that signal with the wifi card in her laptop. I've read how to do it somewhere before, but I can't see to find it.

Anyone know? Would be a big help trying to keep in touch with my family back home! Thanks.

Okay well I got it to work. What I did was setup an adhoc network on my laptop. Just went to Create a new connection and chose the as hoc option. After naming it and setting the password, i went to the host computer, connected it my ad hoc network by just browsing for networks like u normally would connect to any network. i then pluged in the usb adapter and it automatically connected to the free wifi outside the window. now i just right clicked the usb adapter connection in windows, went to properties, and enabled internet connection sharing.

    thats it.

i'm now posting this message in my air conditioned room, while skyping my wife. instead of doing it outside in 120 degree heat with 80% + humidity.

    Thanks!
