If I hook up a router to my ATT/yahoo modem, will I be able to use the internet on my notebook, as well as my desktop, at the same time?

Yes, a router allows you to use your internet connection with multiple outputs

All at the same time, like my husband can be on his desktop in the den, and I can be in the kitchen online at the same time?

Yes you can, like you can set up the computers to have all wireless cards in them or if the computer by the den is next to the router than what you can do is run the ethernet cable from the router to the desktop and allow the kitchen computer to be running wirelessly. So that is what you can do. Hope that helps and feel free to ask more questions.
