Not sure if this belongs in hardware or software, moderators if you want to move, please do.

I'm trying to setup my work computer (Compaq nc6000) and my new wireless router (linksys Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router Model WRT54GC) to work together using WPA2 encryption.

    Steps taken so far,

Tried a number of things last night and couldn't get it to work at all, currently I have the PC able to connect to the wireless network with no encryption (haven't tried WEP) I installed the update from here http://support.microsoft.com/?id=893357 for windows, I also downloaded the latest driver for the Intel PRO/Wireless card from the HP/Compaq site (but only did that this morning).

Has anyone ever got this to work? Any advice on simple ways to get WPA2 to work properly?

I am going to move this to the networking section. You will get better responses there. :)

can you specify what's not working?

is the card not seeing your network or SSID? or you can see the network but can't get authenticated? or it seems fine, but your browser times out?

Can't seem to connect to the network, it sees the network, originally was having problems even putting in the pass code, but got past that by the windows update listed, but then I can't seem to connect (unfortunately there are about 25 wireless networks around so it just seems to end up connecting to another one).

are you sure you're connecting to your network? if you have a default SSID like "linksys" or something, it may be connecting to another "linksys" SSID. this happened to me going back and forth between a friend's house and my apartment. his SSID id was "linksys", my SSID at home was "waterpark", but there was another "linksys" in the apartment complex. so, when i would leave his place after being connected to his "linksys" router and go home and power up, the client would auto connect to the incorrect linksys router in my complex thinking it was reconnecting to the same router. because the owner of the 2nd linksys network had security turned on, i would connect and then not be able to grab an IP addy.

Pretty sure, I set my SSID to James so that it was fairly unique, I'll try again later.

Unfortunately I find that windows zero config wireless to be fairly buggy and bad, I did get the update for WPA2 for my wireless (the driver was from 1/1/2004 before I updated) so maybe that was the issue.
