Crazy question but I've heard its possible so I'd like some input with people with experience.

I have a super duper old E1705 kicking around (inspiron) and was curious about the possibility of ditching my stupid old peripherials on the desktop in FAVOUR of using the E1705's.

I'd like to use my keyboard, trackpad from laptop, as input to the DESKTOP, while having the display and sound (sound output would be optional but Id rather that) from desktop as input to the LAPTOP. I've read only a bit that this may be possible over Wifi LAN. Ideally Id hope that 60fps could be streamed to the laptop in 1080p video in this manner (basically using it as a streaming external monitor, an extension of the desktop that I can connect to through remote desktop or whatever from the laptop over my home wifi network or crosslink LAN cable if need be.)
Honest to god, that would be the utmost best setup ever, as I could bring my crappy laptop around with me for typing and work while coming home to connect wirelessly with the desktop, and literally just hop onto something with a heck lot more CPU/GPU power to relax and game. Without the worry of a stolen cheap laptop, and without needing to buy a whole new set of peripherals and screen when the ones on the laptop I have are for me, PERFECT already.

Too perfect a solution or can it be done?
I can use Windows XP :)P), 7 or 10 x64 x86. I can also look into getting a faster ac/n wireless card (obviously pci-express) for laptop and router (with desktop LAN connected directly to router) if that may be a bottleneck (currently using g band)
The only other way I could think of was hooking up my laptop screen as an external monitor from a control kit.....but honestly that's kinda keeping me to a desk and I'd rather take the laptop with me and run so to speak when heading to work / school (same thing in my world).

That would be pretty cool. I can think of some solutions that do some of what you want, but not all. Can't remember the names of them sadly.
