    When you are downloading something, does the upload speed hurt the download speed? If it is the same file being uploaded and downloaded at the same time? Thanks in advance.

    No, as long as I know, the ISP channel is full duplex, that is communication can happens in both directions at the same time, the bandwidth is not shared.

    Most all services to not have a symetric up/down for residential services. DSL normally have a faster down with the up speed only 1/4 + or - of the down.
