The laptop I will be getting has a 5100agn wireless card. Will I be able to upgrade it myself or does costco have any upgrade programs?

You can upgrade it yourself. It will use either a mini or half-mini pci-e connection. No reason to upgrade the wireless right now as that is one of the better chipsets out there.

Best think to do is use it and see how you get on with it before you splash out your money.
By the way problem with wifi come down to the wireless router also.
