    I've had a discussion about Atheros card and its problems eariler in this therad;
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/networking-wireless/543556-atheros-ar9285-confusing-me.html

    Now the thing is, when I install my 5100 or even the 4965AG it does not work.

    When I install the 5100 it does not work, says the proper driver is not installed. How ever, I did to do a clean install, but about to the end the the installation freezes... However, I pulled the 5100 back and saw that it says Toshiba, it was the card which came with my Qosmio. However, I then tried the 4965AG, I've even modified my laptop, so it now have 3 antennas :D
    However, the 4965AG is from my ThinkPad... But one thing is diffrent, whith this card, I'm able to finish the installation, but again I get the 'not right driver is installed' error...

    Any ideas? As I want to get rid of this Atheros card.. I do not know if it has anything to say, but my laptop has a nForce chipset, not Intel as my Qosmio and ThinkPad. But there is other's who has sucessufully upgraded, I do not know about the Chipset tou...

    Thanks :)

    The 4965AG from your thinkpad is a neutered version of the 4965AGN card and is looking for a thinkpad bios. Thinkpads can only run certain approved cards without a bios hack and intel made this card specifically locked down for the thinkpad. I had this card in my TP and junked it.

    Regarding your issues with the Atheros card, I suggest you get the latest modded driver from Latest Atheros modded Driver for Windws 7, Vista and WinXP - LaptopVideo2Go Forums

    Latest Driver: http://files.laptopvideo2go.com/wlan/atheros_v9.2.0.105_v1.31.exe

    It solved my problems with the same Atheros card. This driver has ALL options exposed, you will NOT need to change any option out the gate, and it will work much better than any driver from atheros or your notebook manufacturer.

    I have this card soldered into the motherboard of a netop that I use to stream video. Frankly, it sucked until I got that driver. Give it a try. Also make sure you uninstall all drivers for the card by checking the delete driver box when you uninstall and keep doing that until it asks you for a driver when you refresh the hardware.

    I'll install and use this driver. Thanks :)

    But, isin't there any way to swith this with a Intel card?
    The thing is, I really don't like to use any kind of modified drivers, but I'll give this a go..

    i have been using this guys drivers for several years. The drivers themselves aren't modded, only the inf file to enable everything and correct some of the inherent problems in the drivers. Give them a go and let me know how it works for you. I don't think that intel card will work in anything but a thinkpad. I only have thinkpads and one sony on hand and the sony is a beast to take a part so I can't check right now but I do remember that info from the thinkpad forums.

    If this doesn't work, pm me and I'll dig up a card for you from my stash that does.
