    All SZ series use Mini-PCI-E.
    Mini PCI is long dead.

G uses two wires as does many N cards. The third wire is for the 3rd channel or radio, to enable 450mbps transfer. You can still get 300 on two antennas. If you have a G system, it will only have 2 wires. If you have an N, it depends on the card. 3945AGN is 2 wire N, 4965AGN is 3 wire N. I think older SZ's had the 3945AGN, later ones had the 4965 AGN and 3 wire. You can easily add a 3rd wire.

There is no bios whitelist on Sonys, just be careful buying, IBM, Dell, Lenovo or HP labeled items.

Why not look in the device manager to confirm what card you have?

You can put a 2 wire card or 3 wire card into either system. A 3wire card doesn't require the 3rd connector to work, the 3rd wire is (mostly) redundant.

Searching replacement motherboards boards all show mini-pci-e.
As does the repair manual for all SZ's.

Yes, but they seem to be unsure what type of card they have and how many antenna comes with their laptop. The device manager will confirm this. They most likely have a 4965 and therefore won't need to buy another antenna.

Yes the 3945ABG takes 2 antenna. I have one right here with me.

    I've used a 3945, 4965, 5300 and a 5100 and soon to be 6200-N.
Some people complain about the 5100 with takes 2 antenna but i really couldn't tell a difference between that and a 5300. I got the same reception and have the same drop outs with both cards.

Technically though the 5300 is a better card. Also, the 6300-N is an upgrade of the 5300 so may be that should be one that you're looking at if you want to go for a wifi card with 3 antenna.

If you don't feel confident about opening the bezel you could always go for a shorter antenna like so-

    Thanks Rachel

Hm 6300-N is not able to buy in my country...

    I have tree choice

    1. Use any card minipci-e with draft n (3 wired) and put only 2 wire without 3td

Maybe draft N will be working ?

    2. Use any card minipci-e with draft n (3 wired) and put into Sony vaio 3rd cable long or short likie form Apple

    3. Pray i will be working :D

#1 works just fine and will give you N performance. Draft N is grandfathered to N.

There is basically no more draft N.

As you go up in power, you have to be careful with the 3rd antenna if you add one, especially the Sony one. I upgraded the 4965AGN in mine to 5300, and ended up with lots of static (annoying but harmless) due to a lead running alongside a speaker, I moved the 3rd antenna (which was the problem) to just over the bluetooth, which solved the noise issue, but I started getting system freezes when transferring large amounts. I moved it over to edge of the dvd, and still have the same issue, plus a decreased signal. I'm not sure if it's a driver issue as I reloaded at the same time, or if it's a placement issue, I haven't had a chance to check.

Well if you want to do 1 i personally would just buy an Intel 5100 N wifi card.
I've got one currently in my Sony TT and i upgraded my neices ultraportable from a 39XX to a 5100 and it was a nice upgrade.

If will be correct and working N it will be finish upgrade

    If not

I buy another card with N-speed and two Uf conectors (2 wired)

I believe you are supposed to use the two outermost connectors (the middle is the newest addition) and it shouldn't matter which goes to which on them.
