I live one block from University.

Could I somehow use University's routers to access internet from my laptop with 2915 wireless card?

You will need to get the WEP/WPA security password to have access.

If they have them... My institute has lots of access points, none of which is protected, neither by encryption, nor by MAC filtering. You cannot pick them up outside of the institute, though (strategic placement?)

Depends too: Do you even get a signal from the University? A block can be pretty far and all around - im not to sure but it might be stealing but it might not be in this case.

I used to live across the street from CSUN (Cal State Northridge). They had free wireless throughout the campus. I was able to access it where I was, but I still had my own.

You could also invest $40 in a "cantenna" (either pre-fab or homemade), but that might be a little more engineering than you want to do.

    Google it.
Basically, it is an antenna made out of a can. Greatly increases your wireless reception.
