    Hiya can anyone help?

Ive got a hp laptop running vista which has a problem connecting wirelessly to my router. Im using wpa2 encryption which is where I believe the error is.
I have 3 other laptops, 2 running vista and one running xp in the house which connect fine on the same wireless network.

The problem is im not getting a gateway address, which I assume means the laptop couldnt find dhcp. Also getting an ip address of 169.254 which confirms it couldnt find dhcp.

    Any ideas?
    Cheers

Do you have MAC filtering enabled on the router?

What happens if you simply temporarily turn off the WPA-2 encryption? Also, is the router broadcasting its SSID or not?

ssid is broadcasting. If I switch to wep or open then it will connect fine.
I did have it connected about 10 mins ago but I suspected it was temporary.
I cycled the wifi and guess what lol didnt connect the second time round.
Will have a look at the error logs and see what clues that give

Does this notebook happen to have the Intel 5100 wireless NIC in it?

think its got one of those broadcom mini pc cards
    Error log is as follows:

Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP server) from the network card with the network address ....... The following error occurred:
The semaphore timeout period has expired. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server

Have you checked to make sure you have the most up-to-date driver for the wireless NIC?
