Hi I am trying to share a printer on another vista computer with my vista computer, only when I go to printers and R click and click on " add printer... I get a thing that says this operation has been canceled due to restrictions on this computer. contact the system administrator. I am logged in as the system administrator. I have vista home premium as does the other computer. Why cannot I add the printer? What do I do to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

That is a help but it does not explain how to disable the restriction to adding a printer in vista home premium. That is the problem the restriction. I cannot get anywhere with that coming up.

From what you've said, it sounds like you're trying to add a shared printer to your network and you haven't turned on Printer Sharing in your Network setup. You haven't mentioned whether or not your network is setup in Shared mode, or if you're trying to add your printer via Ethernet/Wireless, or as a printer connected to a system that's networked via Ethernet/Wireless to your other system.

If the printer is Ethernet or Wireless capable, then it's a simple matter to add it as part of the network by adding it as a network device, then adding it to your Printers for the system you're on - the network sees it as a network device like any other.

However, if it's just connected to one of your computers and you're trying to share it because that computer is networked with the other one via Ethernet/Wireless, you have to enable Network Sharing or your secondary system won't see it (or be able to access it) on the network. Remember that just because your systems may be networked via Ethernet or Wireless, that doesn't mean that they're networked for Windows file/printer sharing purposes. Those options are off by default, and must be enabled for any shared device to be available.

Go to your Control Panel and open up your Network and Sharing Center on your primary system. Scroll down the window, and you'll see the check options for Network Sharing - I'd bet money that your Printer, File and Media Sharing aren't checked.

Once checked, go to your other system and do the same thing, then try to add the printer again.

Hi all figured it out, I found it on another site person with same problem and someone posted the answer. I had UAC off. That person said with that off you cannot install a network shared printer. I turned UAC on and I was able to install the network shared printer. I then turned UAC off and It is still there I am able to print to it. Hope this helps someone.
