I've checked what kind of Wifi card is within my laptop it's a Intel Wireless Wifi Link 5100. Does anyone know what kind of router I would need to go along with this so I could have a wifi network from laptop to desktop ? Also any opinions on these WiFi cards, are they good ?

You can use any wireless router with your card. It is a draft 802.11n (draft "N") card, and will work with every 802.11n/g router on the market. If you spend some time, you can read quite a few threads about the 5100 on this very board.

router SHOULD have a default name like dlink or linksys. when you do connect, make sure to go to the I.P. address of your router settings and put a password on it.

p.s. i use a D-link DIR-655 router (n-draft) and find it so much more reliable than the linksys draft-n that my dad bought.
