Turning off wireless on my Thinkpad should not affect my smartphones wireless, right?

I've connected my laptop (Thinkpad x220), my windows phone and an android phone to my home wifi with no problem all along. I usually use Ethernet for my laptop, but kept the laptop wireless button switched on. But today both my smartphones have trouble connecting to the wifi, not at the same time, but one soon after the other. Shortly before these happened, I had switched off the wireless on my laptop (since I use Ethernet anyway, not wireless connection). I don't think this should be related to the disconnection of the smartphones. Am I right? The phones are supposed to use the Wifi that is provided by the router, nothing to do with my laptop, correct?

"your phone cannot connect to the wifi network"
My laptop has no problem connecting to the wifi (as shown by this post).

I've been puzzled by the sudden disconnection of both my phones to the wifi. Never happened before. :(

    Any enlightenment will be appreciated...

I turned off the router for a couple minutes, then turned it on again. Now the phones connected to the wifi. Thanks.
