If there is already a thread that addresses this, I couldn't find it. Please feel free to just post the link to it here.

I recently purchased the Cinular PC card with the antenna (monthly plan $80) for unlimited wireless access to the internet from anywhere.

For the work I need to do, I require a continuous, predicatable connection. So far, I haven't been able to achieve this. Does anyone know why? Have a similar experience? Have any tips on how I might achieve/predict one?

When it works, it works great. I am just encountering a lot of disconnects and unpredictability.

Thanks for any advice or experiece you can share!

u can only get broadband speeds at "hotspots". unfortunately, for you, these wifi broadband 'hotspots' are not ubiquitous. you can relate it to when cellular technology when first came out. for your service to get to the level of reliability your hoping for, you'll probably have to wait a couple years.

yes, it's fast and convenient. when it works.

The problem is this is a relatively new product for Cingular and they're working on the AT&T integration as well. Cingular would actually be the last place I'd buy this kind of service right now. Verizon's product is the industry leader, and the same price. T-Mo is reliable and cheap, but is much slower. I think you should consider an alternate direction.

Thank you for the quick response.

I have already purchased the card.....I saw Verizon's at approx. the same price, Cingular had a full rebate for the $150ish cost of the card and was already my cell phone provider. We have been very happy with reception for cell phone use.

I did sign a contract for monthly unlimited internet service. Maybe I could get out of it since perhaps they cannot fullfill their promise, but honestly, even with the disconnects, if is better than nothing for me. Allows me to work from the beach, the park, wherever....when it works.

Was hoping someone could maybe explain what causes disconnects. Then if I could anticipate problems, I could at least plan around it. My schedule is flexible, but I really need uninterupted connection more than a speedy connection.

Any other ideas would be much appreciated. [ :)]
