Ok say I recently got a new laptop and I want to transfer my music from this dell desktop with xp to my new laptop with vista. I put my My Music folder in the sharing documents folder. On my laptop I went to get that file and put it in the Music file there and it said it will take 3hrs 48mins to transfer 1,128 items and that is 2.31 GB. I don't understand why it is such a high GB because the computer that all of the songs were only has 1GB of ram... Am I doing something wrong or am I just stupid? haha

You have 1,128 files in your My Music folder totaling 2.31GB on your desktop's hard drive. Your desktop's physical memory doesn't come into the equation.

Also, it may be easier (and quicker) to move the files by sneaker-net instead of across the network through the shared folder - using the shared folder can be an excruciatingly slow process if you're moving a lot of big files - I moved about 100 large image files (avg 6MB JPEG and avg 10MB RAW files) using a shared folder across a wireless/wired network (from wireless laptop, to router, to wired desktop) and it took about 4 hours. I had another couple of hundred to go, which I just moved using an external USB drive, which took all of about half an hour, including disconnecting and moving the USB drive.
