Hi, I love this site and most of the time I just read. But this time I am really stuck with this Toshiba laptop...

It has Windows Vista, and I have Verizon FIOS wireless router. Using my Dell, I can connect to the FIOS router and see some 10s neighbor's routers (well, it is all Verizon, as I can tell by the default names). Anyway, the "Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter" is phantom in the Device Manager, it comes and goes. Some time it is not there; then I close the lid and re-open, it appears. The Func-F8 to turn on/off the wireless comes and goes, too.

Bottomline is that I cannot see any network when I say "Connect To". The Eithernet works fine.

To exclude Verizon Router, I tried the old Linksys wireless router, the Dell connects to it no problem, but the Toshiba does not even see it.

I called Toshiba 2 times and basically they are telling me go fly a kite ("... try calling Verizon", "you can return it"). Good thing is that the support is 24/7 since from the accent they are overseas.

I really love this laptop and want to make it work. Just not sure if the T2390 is near obsolete. I can install Windows XP on it? How about Linux? I know it is a lot of work... many thanks.

If it is disappearing from the device manager try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them to see if that helps.

Yeah, I tried the driver installation/uninstallation quite a few time. Finally called Verizon FIOS, and turned out to be very helpful, the technician use remote assistance checked everything on the machine, and finally said, it could be hardware failure of the card. It is rare, but it happens ...

Hello GusTheGirl. My laptop, Acer Aspire 4520, also uses Atheros AR5007EG wireless network adapter. I also had problem connecting to my linksys wireless router (WRT54G). It doesn't even see it, or any other wireless network. I browsed online and found out that there were many people using Atheros AR5007EG had similar problems, especially connecting to linksys router. So, that type of card is just plain defective, I guess. I'll post it when I find out more about it.

Thanks for all the information. I fussed with it a few more days and finally have to think that there is a hardware problem: the computers in Circuit City all have their wireless available (well, I am new to Vista and did not know what look should I expect from its windows). I am going to send it to Fry's, probably just return it. I really like it otherwise
